This is our second fitness history show with Enid Whittaker who is the Managing Director for the Bonnie Prudden Myotherapy in Tucson, AZ. In this show, we dig into the history of the Kraus-Weber Test for MINIMUM Muscular Fitness which was a historic test created in the early 1940s that tested for postural muscle strength and postural muscle flexibility. The test was helpful in determining deficits that cause back pain and used for decades. When given the K-W Corrective Exercises, people that did their correctives historically fixed their own back pain.
The Kraus-Weber Test was national news back in 1954 for exposing American children as some of the weakest in the world when it came to postural muscles and flexibility. The K-W Test results were so extreme, the report was called “The Report That Shocked The President“ due to President’ Eisenhower’s reaction. Unfortunately, we tried to fix the problem by ramping up more sports, but sports create imbalances. What was needed and IS needed today is the restorative component of physical education to correct postural deformities. Because of the Kraus-Weber Test, the President’s Fitness Council was formed to improve the fitness of American children, and a national effort began to bring our standards back up to par–sad but true, we never got there.
Bonnie Prudden Myotherapy is currently offering workshops, books, videos, and other self-help products. We highly recommend their products and services!
