Part I on “The History of Running.” Part II will be posted soon on “The History of XC & Track at Bakersfield College”
An inspirational show on the history and values of running for both athletes and general population alike with Bob Covey who coached over 40 years. During his career, Coach Covey worked with many high school, college, and even USA Olympic athletes including duties as an Olympic games official at multiple Olympic games. Covey did most of his coaching for Bakersfield Community College which was one of the top community college distance running and track programs in America for many years. The Memorial Stadium track facility at Bakersfield College was one of the first artificial track surfaces in America and hosted many legendary runners and record performances such as Jim Ryan breaking the world record for the mile, Steve Prefontaine setting multiple national records, and Marty Liquori breaking his four minute mile barrier in high school for the first time.
