We are honored to post this show with our great friend Army Maguire from Ageless Strength in Redondo Beach, CA. Army is one of the top experts in America on the use of Indian Clubs–both light clubs and heavy clubs. He is also a very skilled martial artist in numerous systems with over forty years in combatives.
This show goes deep into the history of Indian Clubs and the Persia area of the world. Army is an amazing source not just for the “physical” aspects of club swinging, but also the history, philosophy, and deeper intrinsic values of exercise. Additionally, Army is making some of the best wooden Indian Clubs that can be found–they are literally works of art worthy of passing down through the generations.
There are two basic types of Indian Clubs. The lighter clubs range in weight from 1-5 pounds each. The heavier clubs are usually called “meels” and weigh 8-40+ pounds. Most of the meel clubs will weight between 8-25 pounds. There are only a few people that could handle a pair of heavy clubs weighing 35+ pounds each–Army is one of them. *(Photos by Ron Jones)
