There are a number of different natural or “primitive” movement systems developing globally now. We like Primal Move because we feel it has the best application for general population and corporate in terms of introduction; however, the “MovNat” system is also excellent. While we have not taken their coursework yet, I have been in contact with their founder Erwan Le Corre and had some interesting discussions about natural movement and what their system offers and how it is helping people move better. We will probably be taking some of their workshops in 2014 because they have a great deal to offer for restoring natural movements.
Here’s a sample routine they just put up on walk, crawl, balance, jump, climb, throw, and catch. Check it out. It’s an intermediate routine so beyond entry level, but you’ll get the idea. We are using a balance beam now and some of their movements at home.
Notice ALL the drills are done in bare feet too! Why? Because if you do not have a solid and efficient foundation in your feet—you will never move efficiently. Shoes must be out of the way of feet during at least some of your exercise drills if you are to have the most neurologically developed feet. It’s very simple. The feet have incredible nerve power which is blocked and restricted by stiff shoes—and “any” shoes to some degree because some of the most sensitive nerves are actually in the skin of feet which is why we prefer “bare” feet in direct contact with the ground so we can get the most improvements in the least amount of time.
